Safety Bulletin – Passing Roadside Workers
2023-09-01
Effective today (September 1, 2023), a new law has come into effect in Alberta
requiring all drivers to move over to another lane or slow down to 60 km/h when
passing roadside workers.
The purpose of this law is to protect emergency and roadside workers. By moving
over or slowing down, drivers can give these workers the space they need to do
their job safely and minimize the risk of accidents or injuries.

We want to remind all Northwest Tank Lines drivers that safety is our top priority,
and that we are committed to complying with all laws and regulations that
promote safe driving practices. It is important that we all understand and follow
this new law to help keep ourselves and others safe on the road.
Please note that failure to comply with this law can result in fines and demerit
points, and can even lead to a suspension of your driver’s license. We encourage
all drivers to familiarize themselves with the details of this law and to make every
effort to comply with it.
